Breaking the Vascularity Barrier

There are 3D bioprinters but no 3D printed implantable organs. Why is that?

Microvascularization is a key rate limiter preventing humans needing an organ transplant from having it made available to them. In other words, blood needs to get to the 3D printed tissue in order for the tissue to remain alive. Thankfully, Volumetric Biotechnologies is hard at work making sure we all have a shot at accessing a 3D bioprinted organ made with our own cells, in the near future.

We are proud to say that Volumetric Biotechnologies, ac start-up we have supported from inception, is developing the necessary tools to solve the microvascularization challenge. Their technology is on the cover of Science and we invite you to read more.
